Stillwater band Colourmusic, Oklahoma City duo Skating Polly & Tulsa native St. Vincent all have new albums releasing in the next few months. Below are three select cuts, that were released recently, from those albums.
Colourmusic long-awaited ‘purple album’ – May You Marry Rich – will be out on April 8. In January, the band released “Horse Race”. Last week, “Dreamgirl ’82” was dropped to praise from Noisey, Consquence of Sound, Austin Town Hall and more.
“You can hear the ships flooding the darkening horizon like locusts, and in your bones you just know Will Smith’s getting ready to save the earth once again.” - ChartAttack
Skating Polly‘s new album, Fuzz Steilacoom, is out on February 25. Last week, “Alabama Movies” was officially released. If you’ve been paying attention, The Oklahoma Rock Show has been spinning this for months, even naming it the No.2 Oklahoma song of 2013.
“Flipping between spitting in a scowl to screaming like a banshee to harmonizing an earworming line, these vocals are the protruding highlight of ‘Alabama Movies.'” - Prefix Mag
I also love that “Alabama Movies” name checks Broncho.
St. Vincent‘s self-titled album will also be released on February 25. Last week, she stopped by KCRW to guest DJ and premiere her new song “Prince Johnny”.
“…a fine balance between oblique lyrical wit, searing, impressive intelligence, and pop sensibility.” - Pitchfork
