Country musician Mel McDaniel passed away on Thursday, after a long bout with cancer. He was 68.
McDaniel, who was born in Checotah and raised in Okmulgee and Tulsa, was best known for his songs “Louisiana Saturday Night” (No.7 in 1981)
…and the Grammy-nominated “Baby’s Got Her Blue Jeans On” (No.1 in 1984).
McDaniel had seven top 10 hits, six top 20 hits and 12 top 40 hits and had songs recorded by Kenny Rogers, Alan Jackson, Conway Twitty, Hoyt Axton and others. He was a member of the Grand Ole Opry and the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame.
A public memorial service will be held Wednesday, April 13 at 2pm at the Grand Ole Opry House in Nashville.
