The owners of Othello’s, 434 Buchanan Street, on Campus Corner in Norman have announced its closing today, after 38 years in business.
“Regardless, if it was enduring extended restaurant closures due to inclement weather or wrestling with the economic downturn of recent years, our focus has always been on our guests — many who we regard as close, personal friends.” - owner Jennifer Burgell
Although primarily known as an Italian restaurant, Othello’s featured live music four nights a week and comedy on Tuesday nights. Among the many musical acts that played the restaurant and venue were Camille Harp, Ali Harter, Dustin Prinz, Jenny Labow and John Calvin.
“At this time, we don’t know what the future will bring to us. Sometimes doors need to close before a new one — an even better one — can open.” - owner Jennifer Burgell
Othello’s was opened by Patsy Benso in 1973, sold to the Klubeck family in 1997 and then to the Morgan & Burgell family in 2007.
