Nominees for The 53rd Grammy Awards were announced Wednesday night by The Recording Academy.
Oklahoma transplant and three-time Grammy nominee Miranda Lambert earned three nominations:
Best Female Country Vocal Performance - “The House That Built Me”
Best Country Album - Revolution
Best Country Collaboration With Vocals - “Bad Angel” (with Dierks Bentley & Jamey Johnson)
Her performance of “The House That Built Me” also earned songwriters Tom Douglas & Allen Shamblin nominations for Song of the Year and Best Country Song.
Three-time Grammy winner Kings of Leon, which includes Oklahoma-born members Matthew and Nathan Followill, earned two nominations:
Best Rock Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocals - “Radioactive”
Best Rock Song - “Radioactive”
Oral Roberts alumnus Michael Gungor of Gungor earned two nominations:
Best Rock Or Rap Gospel Album - Beautiful Things
Best Gospel Song - “Beautiful Things”
Michael’s brother Rob of OK Sweetheart played organ on Beautiful Things.
Two-time Grammy winner Leon Russell earned one nomination:
Best Pop Collaboration With Vocals - “If It Wasn’t For Bad” (with Elton John)
Five-time Grammy winner Carrie Underwood earned one nomination:
Best Female Country Vocal Performance - “Temporary Home”
“Temporary Home” was written by former Nixons’ frontman Zac Maloy.
Multiple Grammy nominee Toby Keith earned one nomination:
Best Male Country Vocal Performance - “Cryin’ for Me (Wayman’s Song)”
Alice in Chains, which features Atoka-resident Jerry Cantrell, earned one nomination:
Best Hard Rock Performance - “A Looking In View”
Ada’s Blake Shelton earned his first nomination:
Best Country Collaboration With Vocals - “Hillbilly Bone” (with Trace Adkins)
Oklahoma City-native Audra Mae wrote a song (“Who I Was Born to Be”) for Susan Boyle’s Grammy-nominated album I Dreamed A Dream:
Best Pop Vocal Album - I Dreamed A Dream
The compilation album Glee: The Music, Volume 1, which features Kristin Chenoweth‘s versions of Heart’s “Alone” and Liza Minnelli’s “Maybe This Time”, earned a nomination:
