The Soundpony is a 21+ bar and venue in the Brady Arts District of downtown Tulsa.
Known for its intimate space, live music and sponsorship of cycling and other sporting events, the Soundpony is a shot-gun style layout of 1500 sq. feet with a back outdoor patio and features a full bar, live music, darts, retro video games, and a weekly trivia night on Tuesdays.
Owners Mike Wozniak and Josh Gifford met in Norman in 1994 while working at Chili’s and later both served as bartenders at Empire Bar and the Brook in Tulsa. The pair opened the Soundpony in May 2006, with free, live music from local and touring bands. The bar’s music consists of everything from soul and punk to DJs and jazz, but it is best known for catering to indie rock music.
Athletes like Floyd Landis, Brad Huff and Ivan Stevic and musicians like Dan Auerbach and Patrick Carney of the Black Keys and Georgia Hubley, Ira Kaplan, James McNew of Yo La Tengo have visited the bar for shows and after parties.
Soundpony was named best venue for original live music by Urban Tulsa’s “Best of Tulsa” in 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011 and has been featured in issues of Southern Living, Spin, Reuters, and the China Shop blog.
